What Extra Batteries Are Compatible With EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus?

DELTA 3 Plus is compatible with the following Smart Extra Batteries: DELTA 3 (1024Wh), DELTA Pro 3 (4096Wh), DELTA 2 (1024Wh), or DELTA 2 Max (2048Wh). It’s essential to note that DELTA 3 Plus can only support one Smart Extra Battery connected directly to the unit. The maximum battery storage capacity is 1 x DELTA 3 Plus (1024Wh)  + 1 x DELTA Pro 3 Smart Extra Battery (4096Wh) = 5kWh. If you require more storage or AC output, consider DELTA Pro 3 or DELTA Pro Ultra.

What’s the Difference Between EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus and DELTA 3?

The DELTA 3 Plus features double the solar charge input (Dual 500W MPPT ports vs. a single 500W MPPT port on DELTA 3). Additionally, DELTA 3 Plus supplies more USB power output, making it ideal for charging multiple devices more quickly:

  • DELTA 3 Plus: 2x USB-A ports (Max 36W per port) and 2x USB-C ports (Max 140W per port)

  • DELTA 3: 2x USB - A ports (Max 18W per port) and 2 x USB-C (Max 100W per port)

However, DELTA 3 Plus is heavier: The net weight of the DELTA 3 Plus is ≤16.5kg, while the DELTA 3 is ≤12.5kg. Weigh up whether double the solar charging input and increased USB power are worth trading for 4 kilos of additional weight.

What’s the Difference Between EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus and DELTA 2?

While the basic specs of EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus and DELTA 2 are somewhat similar, DELTA 3 Plus represents a significant upgrade in many areas, including:

  • Faster Charging: Fully charges in 56 minutes compared to 80 minutes for DELTA 2.

  • Higher Solar Input: 2 x 500W MPPT Solar Input Ports compared to DELTA 2's single 500W port.

  • Longer Lifespan: Improved LiFePO4 battery technology in DELTA 3 Plus has a cycle life of 4000 charges/discharges before storage capacity is reduced to +/-80%. DELTA 2 is rated for 3000 cycles before capacity diminishes to +/-80%.

  • Improved Battery Protection: IP65 protection for battery cells, in addition to IP20 for the unit overall, provides enhanced safety and durability compared to DELTA 2's IP20 rating for the entire unit, making it better suited for outdoor use.

  • True UPS Backup: Provides Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with a switch-over time of 10ms for backing up precision electronics like desktop computers and hard drives. DELTA 2's 30ms Emergency Power Supply (EPS) switchover is fast, but not fast enough for data storage applications.

  • Weak Light Solar Input Detection: Supports Weak Light Detection for Solar Input, enabling solar charging even in low sunlight conditions.

  • Smart Generator 3000 Compatibility: Supports automatic start/stop via AC cable and more robust compatibility with EcoFlow Smart Generators.

  • Improved Installation Flexibility: DELTA Pro 3’s battery pack port is located at the rear, supporting stacking and wall placement. Delta 2’s battery pack port is located on the side, making flush wall installation impossible.

How Many Solar Panels Can You Connect to EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus?

EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus has two PV ports, each supporting 500W (11V-60V ) Max of DC input from solar panels. The number of solar panels you can connect is determined by several factors.

  • Rated power output of the PV modules in watts, amps, and volts. Be careful not to exceed the maximum power capacity of either input port.

  • Series or parallel connection? How you wire solar panels together determines their power output in volts and amps.

    • Connecting PV modules in series increases the sum output voltage of a solar panel array, but keeps amperage the same.

    • Connecting PV modules in parallel increases the sum output amperage of a solar panel array, but keeps voltage the same.

Planning series vs. parallel connections (or a hybrid of both) becomes more complex (and essential) with larger solar panel arrays. Still, it’s crucial to ensure the combined voltage, amperage, and wattage output doesn’t exceed the solar charging specs.

All EcoFlow DELTA Series portable power stations support various solar panels from third-party manufacturers. Two recommended configurations using EcoFlow portable solar panels are:

  1. 2 x EcoFlow 400W Portable Solar Panels (1 per input port)

  2. 4 x EcoFlow NextGen 220W Bifacial Portable Solar Panels (2 per input port)

For configuration 2, the 220W solar panels should be connected in series. Connecting them in parallel would exceed the maximum amperage of the DELTA 3 Plus solar input ports.

Is the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus A/C Output Pure Sine Wave?

Yes, the DELTA 3 Plus provides a pure sine wave AC output. This is crucial for powering sensitive electronics like computers, audio equipment, and many newer appliances. Unlike modified sine wave inverters, a pure sine wave mimics the power from a standard wall outlet, providing clean, stable, and reliable power without risking damage to your valuable devices or shortening their lifespan. Pure sine wave output helps protect precision electronics from the negative effects of “dirty” generator power.

Can EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus Be Used as an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)?

Yes, the DELTA 3 Plus can function as a standby UPS for desktop computers, hard drives, and other sensitive electronics. It’s compliant with data center standards for NAS-level UPS backup—auto switchover in under 10ms (>10ms). Simply connect the DELTA 3 Plus to a wall outlet and plug your device directly into the unit. In the event of a power outage, it will provide power to your device after a transfer time of 10ms.

Is EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus Compatible with the Smart Generator (Dual Fuel)?

Yes, DELTA 3 Plus is compatible with EcoFlow Smart Generator 3000 (Dual Fuel). You can connect the Smart Generator to the DELTA 3 Plus using the Extra Battery port (XT150) for charging. It’s crucial to note that while the Smart Generator 3000 can be used as a standalone inverter generator, when connected to DELTA 3 Plus, it can only charge the portable power station.

What Is the Fastest Way To Charge the EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus?

The fastest way to charge the DELTA 3 Plus is using an AC power source like a standard household plug. It can charge from flat to full in under an hour (56 minutes). If you max out the solar inputs, you can charge fully with solar panels in as little as 70 minutes under peak sunlight and environmental conditions. 800W Alternator Charging is an optional extra — charge in just 1.3 hours while driving.

What Is the Lifespan of the EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus Battery, and What Makes It So Durable?

The DELTA 3 Plus uses a LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery, offering over 4,000 cycles to +/-80% of original capacity. LiFePO4 (LFP) batteries are known for their long lifespan, stability, and enhanced safety compared to other battery chemistries like sealed lead acid (SLA/VRLA) and traditional lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, which can be prone to thermal runaway.
