Carbon Tax Rebate Canada 2026: Is There a Final Payment?

EcoFlow

While the Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) program is officially over, as it concluded in spring 2025, there are still many Canadians with unanswered questions about it. This includes what replaced the rebate, when the final payment was issued, and many others.

In an effort to help, this guide goes over some of the most common questions, concerns, and answers about the CCR.

What Was the Canada Carbon Rebate?

The CCR, also known as the Carbon Tax Rebate in Canada, was a quarterly tax-free payment made to certain Canadians to offset the higher cost of fuel in provinces that used the federal pollution pricing system.

To be eligible, you had to be a Canadian resident, file your tax return, be at least 19 years old (or have a spouse/common-law partner or child if you’re under 19), and reside in a province that used the federal pollution pricing system.

This included Alberta, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Saskatchewan.

Your income and power usage choices didn’t factor into whether you got the rebate or not. As a result, even those who heavily relied on alternative power solutions at home, such as the EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra Whole-Home Backup Power, were still able to receive the payments.

Is There a Carbon Tax Rebate Payment in 2026?

No, there are no new quarterly carbon tax rebate payments in 2026. This is because the program ended in 2025 when the carbon tax itself was removed.

When Was the Final Carbon Tax Rebate Payment Issued?

The final carbon tax rebate payment was issued on April 22nd, 2025.

Can You Still Receive a Carbon Rebate in 2026?

While there’s no new carbon tax rebate payment in 2026, some Canadians may be eligible for retroactive payments from the 2024 tax year or earlier.

Because you need to file your taxes to qualify for the rebate payments, if you were late to file your prior-year taxes and only did so in 2026, you may still receive unclaimed rebates from these past years as long as you’re eligible.

How Much Was the Final Carbon Tax Rebate?

What you got from the carbon tax rebate varied depending on your location, as well as the size of your family. Here’s a closer look at how much the final carbon tax rebate payment was in each eligible province:

  • Alberta: $228 for an individual, $114 for a spouse/common-law partner, $57 per eligible child under 19, and $114 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family.

  • Manitoba: $150 for an individual, $75 for a spouse/common-law partner, $37.50 per eligible child under 19, and $75 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family.

  • New Brunswick: $165 for an individual, $82.50 for a spouse/common-law partner, $41.25 per eligible child under 19, and $82.50 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family.

  • Newfoundland and Labrador: $149 for an individual, $74.50 for a spouse/common-law partner, $37.25 per eligible child under 19, and $74.50 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family.

  • Nova Scotia: $110 for an individual, $55 for a spouse/common-law partner, $27.50 per eligible child under 19, and $55 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family.

  • Ontario: $151 for an individual, $75.50 for a spouse/common-law partner, $37.75 per eligible child under 19, and $75.50 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family.

  • Prince Edward Island: $110 for an individual, $55 for a spouse/common-law partner, $27.50 per eligible child under 19, and $55 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family.

  • Saskatchewan: $206 for an individual, $103 for a spouse/common-law partner, $51.50 per eligible child under 19, and $103 for the first eligible child in a single-parent family.

Some people living in rural communities may have also received a 20% supplement on top of these basic amounts.

Also, keep in mind that if you have a spouse or common-law partner, only one of you receives the rebate payment. The combined payment would include your amount, your partner’s amount, and any amount from eligible children in the household.

What Replaced the Carbon Tax Rebate in Canada?

There’s no specific rebate or other program that replaced the carbon tax rebate in Canada, as the additional fuel charge that led to this rebate in the first place also ended.

But while they didn’t replace the carbon tax rebate, there are plenty of other rebates and benefits that many Canadians can take advantage of.

This includes the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (CGEB), the various solar power incentives in Canada, and the rebates that BC Hydro and Ontario offer for things like battery storage and solar panels.

The CGEB isn't a replacement for the CCR, it's an expansion of the existing GST/HST credit, renamed and increased to help with the cost of groceries and everyday essentials.

So if you install a battery storage system like a whole-home generator for your house in BC, you may be able to get a large rebate. This is also in addition to lowering your power bill by relying on battery power for more devices and appliances, as opposed to the power grid.

Ontario also has a similar program that offers rebates for solar panels, or solar panels paired with a battery energy storage system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will There Be Carbon Tax Rebate Payments in 2026?

No, there won’t be any new carbon tax rebate payments in 2026, as the program ended in 2025.

Can I Still Get a Carbon Rebate If I File Late?

Yes, if you file your taxes late, you can still receive your carbon tax rebate for the year (or years) you didn’t file. Once your late return is filed and assessed, the CRA will send retroactive payments if you’re eligible.

Carbon Tax Rebate Payments Have Ended in Canada

Because the CCR ended back in 2025, there are no new carbon tax rebate payments in 2026 or beyond, unless you file your taxes late and receive the payments retroactively. When it was here, how much you received depended on where you lived and your family size.

Any Canadian resident over 19 years old who lived in an eligible province qualified for the rebate. This was even true if you relied largely on off-grid and carbon-friendly power solutions like the EcoFlow DELTA Pro Ultra, as your personal use of carbon didn’t factor into the rebate at all.
