It also lets you sign up for alerts and use weather overlays to stay informed. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to use the map and how to stay safe and powered up when the grid goes down.

What Is the ComEd Outage Map?

The ComEd Outage Map is available online, providing real-time updates that show current power outages in the service area, including Chicago and its surrounding areas.  It allows users to instantly access real-time data and updates on blackouts, so they know what caused the outage, how many people and which areas are affected, and how long it is expected to last. You can also enroll in alerts to get instant updates on your phone.

How Do I Access the ComEd Outage Map?

You can easily access the ComEd Outage Map online from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to check outages in your area.

To keep your devices charged and connected during a blackout, keep a backup power supply like the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus. Starting at 1024Wh and expandable with additional batteries up to 5kWh, it can run your essential appliances, allowing you to keep your home and family safe and connected.

What Information Does the ComEd Outage Map Display?

You can access a lot of information online. First, look at the individual blackout icons or clusters of blackouts on the map. The left panel will display the number of current active blackouts and the number of customers affected.

To get more specific information on your outage, zoom in on your area using your mouse scroll button, fingers on a touchscreen, or the +/- buttons on the bottom right.

Once you see your individual outage icon, click it. A new panel will pop up on the right side of your screen with additional information, including the number of customers affected, the status (such as scheduling crews, crew working, etc.), the probable cause (under investigation, scheduled maintenance, accident, and weather), and an estimated time when the power will be restored.

A “Summary Reports” button on the lower left allows you to track blackouts by county or region. Below that is a “Weather” button that displays a weather overlay, allowing you to monitor current weather conditions that may be causing blackouts in your area. Above those buttons, you will also see the exact time the page was last updated, with updates occurring every 15 minutes.

Finally, there are also buttons near the top of the screen that allow you to report blackouts and enroll in real-time alerts. These alerts can be sent to your phone or email and provide updates as soon as they’re available.

If you want to be better prepared for blackouts, choose a backup power supply like the EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3, which will keep your home powered up when the neighborhood goes dark. It starts at 4000W of output and will run 120V and 240V appliances, so all your essentials are covered.

EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus Portable Power Station

Get 1–5kWh expandable capacity with multiple battery options. Deliver up to 2200W output (3600W surge) with X-Boost. Recharge fast with 5 versatile methods, and enjoy peace of mind with a 5-year warranty.

How Can I Report an Outage Using the Map?

To report an outage, simply click the “Report an Outage” button near the top of the page. From there, you will receive all the information you need to report online, via phone, or by text, with additional options for reporting street lights as well. If you’re outdoors and see downed power lines, leave the area first, then report it.

The best way to prepare for power outages is to have a backup generator ready. Gone are the days of relying on gas generators, which risk lethal carbon monoxide poisoning, killing 300 Americans every year. Instead, opt for safe and reliable home solar systems with battery storage that can be used indoors and outdoors, producing no noise, fumes, or safety risks.

The EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 Solar Generator (PV400W) provides peace of mind during power outages. Its battery storage starts at 4000W of output, providing plenty of power to run refrigerators, electronic devices, air conditioners, and more. It’s also expandable up to 25kWh to power entire large homes with ease. Then, you can simply recharge it when the sun shines with its super-efficient 400W solar panel, allowing you to stay powered up indefinitely.

How Do I Receive Outage Alerts?

You can get outage alerts on your phone or by email by signing up online. Simply click the “Enroll in Alerts” button on the top right side of the map, and you’ll be prompted to sign into your account. Follow the instructions from there, and you can get real-time instant updates.
