Eligible smart-meter households in NSW, Queensland and South Australia can access three hours of free general electricity usage each day, up to 24 kWh. The free window runs from 11 am to 2 pm in NSW and Queensland, and from 12 pm to 3 pm in South Australia. Daily supply charges, controlled-load charges and rates outside the free window still apply.

Your Origin electricity plan sets the offer, rates and benefits attached to your account. Your tariff determines how Origin charges for the electricity you use, and your meter, distribution network and property setup determine which tariff structures you can access.
Single-Rate and Time-of-Use Tariffs
Origin commonly offers single-rate and time-of-use tariffs. The better option depends on when your household uses electricity and whether you can move flexible loads away from more expensive periods.
Single-rate tariff: You pay the same general usage rate throughout the day and night. A separate daily supply charge also applies.
Time-of-use tariff: You pay different rates during peak, shoulder and off-peak periods. The times vary by meter and distribution network, and some tariffs do not include a shoulder period.
If you use time-of-use pricing, check your Origin peak and off-peak times before moving appliance use, EV charging or battery charging to a cheaper period. Night-time electricity does not automatically fall into the off-peak window for every tariff.
Controlled Load and Demand Tariffs
Some households may also have a controlled-load or demand tariff alongside their main electricity tariff.
Controlled-load tariff: Origin applies a separate rate to a dedicated circuit for equipment such as electric hot water, pool pumps, underfloor heating or some EV chargers. The network powers that circuit during selected hours, often outside periods of high grid demand.
Demand tariff: Origin calculates part of your bill from the highest amount of electricity your household draws during a defined interval or billing period. Running several high-powered appliances together can increase this charge.

Origin Solar Feed-in Tariffs
A solar feed-in tariff gives you a bill credit for unused solar electricity sent to the grid. Most eligible Origin plans include a standard retailer FiT. Eligible solar households can also compare Solar Boost and Solar Partner Plus for higher export rates.
Origin Solar Boost applies a higher rate to the first 8 kWh exported per day on average over your billing period. Origin then applies the standard retailer FiT to any remaining exports. Solar Partner Plus offers a higher rate to eligible customers who purchase an approved solar system through SolarQuotes or another Origin-approved installer.
